Transimperial Working Group Members Publish Article in AHA Magazine

Vicky Shen, Eloy Romero Blanco, and Arko Dasgupta, members of the World History Center Working Group on Transimperialism and graduate students at Pitt and CMU, published an article in the most recent edition of the American Historical Association’s newsmagazine Perspectives on History, “Experiencing the Transimperial While Researching it: Three International Students’ Journeys.”

In the article, the authors discuss their professional and personal experiences with transimperialism. Researching and writing about transimperialism requires the authors to not only cross imperial boundaries in the past, but also to navigate those very real borders in the present, something that presents unique challenges for international students. In their view, transimperial is not just a methodology, it is also closely tied to their identities and experiences.

The Trans/Anti-Imperialism Working Group was a WHC working group from 2021-2023. The group began as an experiment in collaborative scholarship between graduate students and faculty in the History/History of Art and Architecture Departments with the goal of bringing the ‘transimperial’ in conversation with World History.
