Lillian Taylor

  • Student Administrative/Research Assistant

Lillian Taylor is a senior in the Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences majoring in environmental science, minoring in history, and pursuing a certificate in GIS. She was born in Wilmington, North Carolina. Her love of history evolved out of her interest in science as she began to wonder about the relationships between changing ways of doing science and accelerating environmental change. The instruction and mentorship from Atlantic, environmental, and world historians at Pitt has shaped her research focus on the intersections between knowledge-making, environment, and imperialism in the early modern Atlantic World.  She began her research on the environmental history of piracy in the spring of 2023 as a Digital Atlas Design Intern. She developed this research further in the summer of 2023 as a Brackenridge Fellow at the David C. Frederick Honors College. After graduating from Pitt, she intends to pursue a Ph.D. in history with a focus on environmental history and the history of knowledge in the Atlantic World.
