Narusa Yamato is a Postdoctoral Scholar at the University of Pittsburgh with a joint appointment at the World History Center and the Asian Studies Center. She completed her Ph.D. in history at Stanford University. Her research examines the rise of the Japanese dairy industry by exploring how regional entrepreneurs forged transnational connections as they sought to acquire knowledge, technology, and cattle from the US, Europe, and other parts of East Asia. At the University of Pittsburgh, Narusa will continue working on her first book, tentatively titled “Archipelago of Cows: A History of the Japanese Dairy Industry, 1854-1954.”
