George Remisovsky is an historian of modern East Asia specializing in the legal and economic history of Japan, China, and Taiwan. His book manuscript, Custom on Trial: Colonial Taiwan and the Reconstruction of East Asian Law, examines how Japanese colonial rule in Taiwan remade civil law across East Asia. A second project studies global competition between Japan and China in the nineteenth-century tea and silk trades, drawing on a database of 27,000 Taiwanese land deeds to reconstruct landholding and taxation practices. He received his Ph.D. in History from Yale University in December 2024 and was previously a Postdoctoral Associate in Modern Chinese History at Yale's Council on East Asian Studies (2024-2026).
